Training in Astronomical Spectroscopy

With support from the National Science Foundation Program for Research and Training with Small Telescopes (NSF-PREST), Ritter Observatory provides training for undergraduate and graduate students in spectroscopic observing and data reduction and analysis.

Amber Ferguson and Jennifer L. Lozier participated in the training during the week of May 1-5, 2006. Both had just completed their junior year as physics and astronomy majors at Mount Union College (Alliance, OH).

Toledo Ph. D. student Greg Thompson, a PREST project staff member, shows Amber and Jen how to guide the telescope, keeping the star image positioned on the optical fiber tip as displayed on the computer screen.
