[3 hours]  Advanced scoring for contemporary jazz ensembles.  A study of jazz notations, voicing, orchestration, and composition for large groups. 

Prerequisite:  MUS 3650 and jazz performance experience.

Throughout the semester, score and style study will include major jazz arrangers and composers.  Including:  Sammy Nestico, Bill Dobbins, Bobby Brookmeyer, Jim McNeely, Bob Beldon, etc.

        The course will be a required course in the restructured B.M. Jazz Emphasis degree in the Department of Music and Dance.  In its first offering, anticipated enrollment will be 4-8 students.  Within 5 years, (2 offerings, one every other year) expected enrollment will be 10-15 students.
